This coming week sees most children in England return to school.

There are many challenges for schools and pupils. The Secretary of State for Education Bridget Phillipson has today (31st of August 2025) announced some support for schools with the formation of some Behaviour and Attendance Hubs. This is part pf the governments's Plan for Change mission to break the link between background and success.

78% of teachers report that poor behaviour had a negative impact on their health and wellbeing.

Whilst this initiative is to be welcomed it is a drop in the ocean to the growing need. A high profile initiative supporting some schools. Where is the expert staffing coming from to staff these Hubs?

I understand the forthcoming schools white paper will set out plans to crack down on bad behaviour.

Let's remember there are so many children currently not in education or training often because of behaviour issues. Many of these children will end up in the criminal justice system if interventions to support them and their families are not provided urgently. There are too many empty chairs in classrooms - where education and learning is being missed.
